Tutu Fun!!

I have been just a crafting maniac here lately! I finally got my office/craft room cleaned and organized enough where I can actually work in it now.

I started making the hair bands shown in this photo a couple weeks ago and was excited to eventually make some matching tutu's and finally had the chance! This one is for my 4 month old niece. Our family is big Red Raider fans so this is a game day tutu set! Excited to see her in it! I am going to sell these hair bands are $10 or 3 for $25 the tutu's are going to be $25 and if you want a matching hair band then it's just an additional $5.

I made this cute black, hot pink & silver glitter tutu for my four year old niece to wear to ballet. My sister gave me the freedom to make whatever color I wanted knowing she had a black leotard and the traditional pink leotard. I will be making one to go with her pink leotard as well. I love this tutu! Kind of wish I could get away with wearing a tutu!

I made this simple little hair tie to go with my niece's ballet tutu. I didn't want to put too much on it but just enough to match the tutu and keep her hair out of her face while she is dancing!

Diaper Cake

My friend, Janelle, is always making diaper cakes for friends baby showers and they turn out so cute. So I decided it was my turn to take a stab at the diaper cake for a sip-n-see I was throwing.

I think it turned out pretty good for my first one, and maybe next time I will build another tier but for my first one I tried to keep it simple. I will try my best to explain it to you without taking pictures of the step by step process since I forgot to do that. Next time though, I will be sure to take picture of the steps!

What do you need?
  • diapers - I used about 50 on this cake
  • ribbon (1 1/2 inches-2 inches in width)
  • regular sized rubber bands (or I used hair ties from Dollar Tree)
  • giant rubber bands (3-4)
  • A circle cutout of cardboard
  • Two baby bottles--one large and one small (for this cake you could get away with two small, as I had to take the top off my big one)
  • Fun baby items like a rattle, teething ring, stuffer animal, hair accessories, paci, etc.
  • Double-sided tape
Step 1: Cut out a circle from cardboard to serve as the base. Some suggest covering it with wrapping paper, but I used white cardboard so didn't find it necessary. I used a large serving plate to trace mine.

Step 2: Open the diapers long ways and roll them up, I started with the design end so it was white on the end that everyone would see. Once rolled, tie either a rubber band (or hair-tie) around the diaper. The looser the diapers the less amount of them you have to use. I learned this the hard way...

Step 3: Place tall baby bottle in the middle of the circle cut out and start stacking up diapers around it. Once their is a layer completely around the bottle take a large rubber band and place it around the layer.

Step 4: Start stuffing more diapers inside the rubber band to create a tight second layer.

Step 5: Create a 3rd layer on the outside of the rubber band and add another large rubber band to keep all the layers together.

Step 6: Add the second baby bottle on top of the old bottle and begin to make your first layer of diapers around it. Again placing a rubber band around the first layer and repeating step 4.

Step 7: Take your ribbon and cut it long enough to go around the base of the cake and the top layer of the cake. I used two different ribbons, but you can use whatever you want. Use double-sided tape to get the ribbon to stick to the diapers. I used several pieces all around the cake to keep it from falling off but don't use glue or anything like that because then the mom can't use the diapers.

Step 8: Decorate however you want! I used a rattle, a teether, a ribbon bow, a stuffed lamb and a hair bow I made. This part is really up to you so have fun with it! Pin It
