Blogger Tips: Replacing Colors

I have yet to develop the skills to make my own blog backgrounds or headers. I sometimes see one I like but it's completely the wrong colors for my blog. So I taught myself how to edit the images to match my own background.

So I typically head over to either Shabby Blogs or The Cutest Blog on the Block to grab a header or background. This one came from The Cutest Blog on the Block!

I grabbed this fun banner that I love, but totally clashes with my blog theme.

I then opened it up in PhotoShop. Go to Image, then Adjustments, then click Replace color.

You will next want to click the eye dropper tool on the left (see below photo). Then click the part of the banner you want to edit. You can see that I chose to recolor the inner portion of the banner first.

Next, you will want to adjust the hue, saturation & lightness to get the color you are looking for. In this case I changed mine to gray. I played with these a lot to get the right color for me. The gray was actually easy because I was able to just shift all the way to the left on both hue & saturation.

Repeat those steps but for the other part of the image. This was much harder for me playing with hue, saturation & lightness on the pink because I was trying to make it the perfect shade for my blog.

Done & Done!

Turns out I am not going to end up using this for my blog because once I added my blog title it just didn't do the way I wanted it to. But I figured it was a great teaching opportunity anyway. And if you need an easy way to add wording to this then I will be teaching more later. I've had to teach myself a lot so I wanted to share as much as I could.
