Tuesday Glam Party #13

Snow is in the forecast this week so I may be making some snow ice cream! I am praying for snow because I desperately need a day off plus it would give me time to play with my new Silhouette that my husband bought me for my birthday (April 17th)! Yep, that's right, I convinced him to get my present for me super early!

Just a heads up, I have some really fun posts & giveaways coming up in the month of February that I am so excited about so check back often to see what's going down at Giggles, Glitz & Glam!

In honor of Valentine's being this month, I chose my favorite Valentine link ups from last week. Check these out...

How creative are these CUTE Valentine's Day Chalk t-shirts over at Dukes' & Duchesses! What a clever idea and so fun for the kids.

I just love the fabric flower heart that Projects & Prose made. It's so cute and would be the perfect addition to my Valentine's decor.

I just love these Marshmallow Valentine's from Sugar Bee! They look so cute and they are super creative plus I bet they are delish!

I am curious to what you have been up to, so anything goes on this linky party!
It's your turn to shine so show me what you've got whether it be something hand-made, a recipe, a tutorial, a giveaway or even your etsy shop!
Can't wait to see what you have to share.

Do me one favor and link back to my page with either my button or text link.

Letter "K" Tutorial

Here is a very simple tutorial for creating a distressed monogram letter for your home!

What You'll Need:

A wood cut out of the letter you want to make (I got mine for under $2 at Hobby Lobby)
A can of spray paint (mine was the cheapest one I think)
Sand paper (I used 120-grit)

I do my spray painting in the garage on an old box that I've flattened out. I always try to at least crack the garage for some fresh air.

Spray paint on a nice thick coat, I used black for this one. Be sure you get all the edges & wedges. Then you will have to let it dry for an hour or so before you flip it over.

Flip it over and spray paint the other side. Then let it dry for a couple hours to make sure everything is set in.

To finish it off, take your sand paper and rub off the edges of the letter to give it a rough distressed finished. (As seen below)

Cheap, yet cute way to decorate a monogrammed letter for your home or to use as a gift for a wedding or even a baby gift!

Did I mention I LOVE spray paint? More project to come in the near future where I use spray paint. I seriously love the stuff!

Overstock.Com Discount!

Shopping online is a great way to get everything you need and often at a lower price than you could find it anywhere else.

Overstock.com offers so many different things on their website like apparel, bedding & bath, fashion jewelry, and so much more...

Check out their great furntiure like this awesome sofa table that I could use in my entry way!

Great kitchen appliances, like the KitchenAid mixer I've been dreaming about for years!

I hope I can buy a baby crib soon enough, but only time will tell. I like this one!

So as you can see, Overstock.com pretty much has about everything you could ever want or need. I think I could spend hours looking over their website.

Overstock.com is offering my readers 10% off!

The discount code is: 121745, and is good for 10% off Overstock products
(excluding movies, books, and electronics).
This discount code never expires, however, it can only be used once per email address.

Use the code 202234 for free shipping on electronics.

All the ideas and opinions expressed are my own. No monetary compensation was received for doing this post, however, I was provided with a discount code.?

Relationship Ramblings

I've decided to start Relationship Ramblings on Fridays. I have always had a passion for
relationships and actually started a blog in college about it, but then it faded over time from
a lack of time. I decided instead of creating a second blog, which did cross my mind, that I would just start a day devoted to it. I will talk about pretty much anything related to relationships on this day.

Today I will just give you a simple tip & one I need to remember as often as possible.

My husband LOVES sports and I mean loves them so much so that he could watch them from sunrise to sunset. Most of the time I "let" him watch sports in his Man Cave
our media room. I then proceed to watch whatever trashy tv show I want in the living room while blogging or making tutus. I see it as a win-win situation but really that win is all on me and just kind of on Cody.

My point in all of this is that I really should watch sports with him occasionally. What a great way for me to show him that I love him. I mean he does watch The Bachelor with me. Your husband may not be a sports fanatic like mine, but I am sure there is something about him that he would love it if you joined him in it. So maybe just this once, let's do what he wants to do. Let's show him just how much we love him. So my goal this week is to watch, maybe even suggest watching a game together. I might cause him to have a heart attack but at least he will know I love him!

Blog hopping today.

Glamorous Find: S.Y.T.Y.C

I am happy to introduce to you another Glamorous Find this week. Please welcome Missy from S.Y.T.Y.C, she will be sharing with us all about her blog which is really neat! I'm serious you will want to check it out!

Hello everybody! I'm so excited to be here at Giggles, Glitz & Glam today! Jana asked me if I would introduce myself and my blog to you all.

That's me, Missy (and Word Girl - love her). I'm a work-at-home-mom with a serious blog stalking addiction. One day I was having a conversation with my husband, sister and brother-in-law about all the blogs that I stalk. When asked which was best, I couldn't answer. I mean, could you? They're all so great for different reasons. In answer to my silence my bro-in-law (with typical male reason) said something like, "You should make them fight it out." :)

Thus, So You Think You're Crafty was born in November of 2009. I just emailed 10 ladies that I totally envied admired and asked if they would like to be part of this new idea I had (and was sure would fail). Guess what? They said yes! And guess what else? It didn't fail! Since then we've had 6 seasons with 60 different bloggers competing. I'm sure you recognize some of them... Dana, Vanessa, Mique, Ashley, I could go on and on.

So here's a little bit about how it works. Every 10 weeks a new group of crafters is selected. Each week the crafters are given a theme. This week the theme happens to be Upcycled. All the crafter make something they thinks fits in the theme. Like turning old sweaters into baby jammies,

or diaper boxes into custom canvas bins.

Here's where you come in. YOU vote for your favorite! The winner makes us all a free tutorial and the loser gets 'sent home.' Fun, huh? I think so. Come stop by and let me know what you think. I'd love to have you! Pin It

My Full-Time Job

Today I am going to do a quick post on my full-time job so you know what else it is I do with my time. I work as an Orphan Coordinator for Christian Life Ministries. Our ministry is based out of Kampala, Uganda where we have about 1,000 orphans living in two different orphan villages. They live in a home with about 12 children and one house mom. I feel so privileged to work for an organization that helps others and spreads the good news of the gospel. I am blessed.

Here are some of the recent photos I have edited for work projects.

Puppy Torture

I have been making some hair clips with these gerber daisy flowers but I don't have a model. Seriously need to have some kids so I have instant models. So I used one of my "kids" to model for me...it's payback for him chewing through our internet cables.

My Applique Fail

I told my sister I was going to make my niece a onesie and tutu for Valentine's day. I am a procrastinator so Friday night at 9:00 pm I set out to make two onesies (my sister ordered one as a gift also). We were leaving at 8am the next morning to visit them for my other nieces 5th Birthday.

The first onesie was a success, although I currently do not have a photo of it to share because it is a gift and the gift receiver has not received it yet. There were two minor glitches, but for only my 3rd onesie I counted it a success.

The second onesie, the adorable one I was making for my niece was a major FAIL! Brace yourself for a lengthy retelling of the nights events...

I grabbed some brown thread to use for the onesie only to discover upon threading the bobbin that something was seriously wrong with this so thread. I pulled it off the machine and found it was American quilting thread. What the hay? I unwound the entire bobbin and tossed it in the trash. I grabbed some ivory thread off my moms machine since it was obviously good because I had used it before to sew something. I started sewing and was having a good run at it and then I got stuck...bad.

I cut the onesie loose and discovered the sewing machine had eaten the onesie. At this point I was probably a little more than fluster and quit. I ripped up the onesie and tore off the applique then threw it in my dogs face and told him it made a better toy.

I took a break from them machine and was ready for bed as it was already late. But I had promised my sister a onesie and didn't want to show up empty handed. So I sat back down, pulled out the ivory thread only to discover it was also quilters thread. UGH! I grabbed the hot pink thread and in no time whipped up this beauty!

But before I could go to bed I needed a matching tutu! Here is a photo of Ash in her Valentine's outfit. Sorry, but it's just an iphone shot...

Gina from Hiya Luv!!

Please welcome Gina who is guest blogging today for me since my dog felt it wise to chew through our internet wires.

What's Cookin' Wednesday will return next week--thanks for understanding!

Hello there!

I am so happy to be guest blogging with you today! My name is Gina and I blog over at Hiya Luv!

{ my pupster Polo & I }

When I studied abroad in London in college I was so taken by being called "Luv" all the time by everyone and Hiya is how you say Hello so together: "Hiya Luv!" I have been smitten with this connotation for years now and it is a brilliant name for my blog because I hope it to be an inviting, warm, welcome space online! I also have a small shop called Hiya Luv Handmade.

And last but certainly not least, I host a twitter chat on Monday evenings at 8pm est called #SetUpShop

{Check us out and make new friends; it truly is a great time. In fact, that is how I met Jana!!}

So on to my post-

I am not sure about you but I struggle through the winter months; particularly January and February. After the holidays are over, the cheer seems to have drifted and the gray snow cloud ridden skies seem to cast a shadow over the friendly spirit that once was from the holidays.

Sometimes I find myself getting short with others, or I just want to hibernate and not be bothered.

Do you ever feel like that?

In hopes of lifting my spirit {and others perhaps} I have decided to do {at least} one act of kindness a day that will benefit another person. I have not set any limitations on this endeavor. The person could be anyone-my fiance, my boss, coworker, a friend, a student, or a random person.

I will do something out of the ordinary.

Here are some ideas that I have brainstormed during my "Operation Winter Kindness" endeavor:

1. I will listen. Truly and honestly listen. I will tune out the world, my phone, my job, and tune into my fiance. I will give him time. Somebody recently told me that people put so much time and effort into their jobs but not nearly as much time and effort into their relationships. I really thought about this statement long and hard and weeks later am still thinking about it. This statement rings true for me. Does it for you?

2. Compliment others.

3. Shovel a neighbors driveway and walk the next time it snows.

4. Appreciate the small stuff. There is good all around. I will take time to bask in it and be thankful.

5. Help strangers. A couple ways I can do this and I get giddy with excitement just thinking about it is to feed quarters into a parking meter as it is about to expire, list an unused item online for free, or doing community service.

How do you get through the winter blues blahs? How do you show kindness?

Thanks so much for having me today new friends! I hope to "see" you around the blogosphere or twitter in the near future!

Luv & smiles,

gina
