Glamorous Find: Catie's Garden

Today I want to share with you a shop called Catie's Garden.
It's no ordinary shop, as Catie is 13 years old, and raising money to help fight her grandmothers breast cancer.

She originally started making flowers to raise money for a camp she wanted to attend but then her grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer and does not have very good insurance to cover the bills.

Her wish is to help her grandmother out, so if you wouldn't mind checking out her shop & sharing it with your friends.

Just check out how cute some of these flowers are (click the image to purchase it)

Cake Walk

I have to admit that this cake was made almost a year ago & the pictures are less than up to par because they are from my phone but I had to share this with you.

The nonprofit corporation, Jack’s Foundation, dedicated to heightening awareness of primary immunodeficiency diseases was founded with a dear friend of the families grandson in mind. The foundation was named in honor of Jackson, who was diagnosed with Hyper IgM syndrome. Last May they held and event in the city I grew up to help raise awareness & support. The family friend requested some cakes & I was in the mood to make a cake as it has been awhile since I had decorated one.

My first attempt at the cake was a major fail, but that's okay my husband really enjoyed eating it. I should have let it cool longer!

So I made this cake for the cake walk:

The best part of the event was that Jackson did the cake walk & was so excited to win this cake! I think it turned out pretty great and was so lucky to find jacks the colors of the logo!

Easter Bunny Applique Onesie

I had to share with you this simple yet adorable Easter onesie. I loved the idea of making a bunny Easter onesie but something was missing. I played with some fabric pieces to make the insides of the ears, the eyes, the nose, etc...but I hated it. But still something was missing.

So I decided to think outside the box a little. I sell tutus in my shop so I try to stick to things that go with them. So I grabbed a piece of tulle & made it into a little bow for my bunny.

I tell you this to remind you to think outside the box when you are making something.
I think it turned out pretty cute!

Get this bunny on my etsy!!

Deviled Eggs for Easter

Growing up my family always had deviled eggs at Easter. They are probably my favorite thing to eat for our Easter meal. Mmm, so delish! My first Easter with a new family and I was shocked that they didn't have them at the table so last year I brought them with me.
Mind you, they can't just be any deviled eggs but they have to dyed like my Granddad always made them!

So here's how to make deviled eggs Granddad style!

Ingredients:

12 eggs
1/3 cup of mayonnaise
2 tsp of mustard
season salt
can of deviled ham
paprika

1. Boil your eggs.

Place your eggs in a pan so that there is a single layer of eggs. Put cold water in the pan so that the water comes above the eggs about an inch.
Add a little salt to the water as it will help prevent cracking & lead to easier peeling! Cook them on high until the water begins to boil; then lower to medium and cook for 15 more minutes covered.

2. Peel the hard shell off.

I personally put my pan in the sink and drain the hot water. I then let running cold water circulate through the pan until the eggs are cool. I tap the egg against the sink & peel away.

3. Dye the eggs.

For Easter, I chose to dye my eggs pink, purple, & blue. I grabbed 3 bowls and filled them half way up with water. I then took food coloring & put a couple drops in the water. I then dipped my eggs in the bowl and let them soak up the color. I let them sit in the water until they were the color I wanted. If you do not have deep bowls where the eggs can stay under the water be sure to rotate the egg often or you will have a small section that ends up lighter than the rest. When it's the color you want it place it back in your carton.

3. Cut your eggs in half.

Be sure when you cut your eggs in half to dump the yolk into a bowl. Then place your eggs in an egg dish.

4. Mix ingredients.

Use a fork to mash down the yolk with the deviled ham, mayonnaise, mustard & seasoned salt.. Once it is well mixed you will spoon it into the eggs.

5. Finishing touches.

Appeal to the eye & the taste buds by sprinkling a little paprika on the tops of all of the eggs.

I apologize for the photo qualities as they were taken with my iphone. I made these last year for Easter & wasn't blogging at the time. However, I had to share this recipe before Easter & don't need these laying around as I am seriously addicted.

Need an egg tray? I got mine at Crate & Barrel but see them all the time.

Relationship Ramblings: Our Wedding

This week I invite you to link up a post about your wedding including photos, memories & stories of your special day. How fun for us to read & look at each others! Plus I know several of my readers are planning their wedding so this will be fun for them to go look at for extra ideas!!

Our wedding bells rang on November 21st, 2009.

A little background story for us: we started dating on February 21st, 2009! 4 months of dating, 5 months engaged and married on our 9 month Anniversary. Yep, we did it quick!!

In no particular order, my three favorite wedding images:

I very distinctly remember this moment as I told my dad not to look at my mom because neither of us were allowed to cry. I come from a family of sobbers so I knew if either of us saw her we would get teary eyed. We survived. In fact, I managed not to cry during my wedding which came as pure shock to me. I sobbed uncontrollably through my sisters.

This moment might be one of my favorite parts of the entire wedding! Instead of a unity candle we poured sand which now is displayed in our home, you maybe have seen this in a post already. While we poured the sand our friend, David, sang the song Love is not a Fight by Warren Barfield. Check it out if you haven't heard it before!

I had Cody's brother, dad, aunt & cousin perform our recessional.

I absolutely love my bridal party & their sweet baby girls. On the left is my sister & my two nieces (okay one is still in the womb). To my right is Chelsey & her little girl then Rachel. I have known both Chelsey & Rachel since the 7th grade. I let my flower girls go barefoot and bought them sweet little James Avery anklets. Never found shoes I was happy with.

The groomsmen & one of the ring bearers. To Cody's left is his brother, Kenny, the best man. To his right, his cousin, Justin, the ringbearer, Caleb (Chelsey's son) & David, Cody's best friend.

Family:

My family!

My adorable niece & nephew! Look how GQ he is!

His family!

Reception:

Some of the details:

The wedding cake made by a life long friend of our family. She didn't think she was going to be able to make it because she had an injury, but she was able to. My heart was broken that she couldn't so I was elated when she told me she could make it.

She also made the grooms cake. It's Cody's favorite, german chocolate cake, with a double T for Texas Tech which is both of our alma mater!

My something old & something blue. This was my mothers which I was privileged to wear in my wedding. It now hangs on my bed.

I didn't have your traditional wedding reception. We just had desserts, coffee & candy.

While I absolutely love shoes, I hate them all at the same time. I really would have preferred to be barefoot under my dress but my sister said that would be unfair since my mom made her wear shoes. So I settled for slippers!

The necklace I wore with my dress. My bridesmaids wore the same necklace but in a light brown. Loved them!

Goodbye sweet friends!

Hope you had fun going through your wedding photos to link up to this wedding post. And for those of you who are engaged, have fun getting some ideas!!

Glamorous Find: That's just me...Learning to be.

Happy to introduce to you another great blogger find, Kallie from That's just me...Learning to be.

Photobucket

As I entered into a new phase in my life (stay at home mom) I decided to start a blog as a way to capture all the crazy times of Learning to be... stay at home mom, chef, maid, wife and follower of Christ.

I am a little lazy and have horrible time management skills so I started trying different "methods" some worked and some crashed and burned.

There is so much to learn and so many different ways to go about your day and role. I am just figuring out what works for me and sharing my triumphs and defeats with you along the way.

I hope you will head over to learning to be and check it out.

Some of my new adventures... freezer cooking, organic living, coupon cutting, steals and deals grabb'in but of course life is ever changing and thats why...

That's just me... Learning to be.

What I Wore? Take 1, Take 2 & So On.

A different spin on what I wore this week. I tend to prefer not to show off the photos I don't choose to upload, but I decided to share them with you this week. It's never just one shot & done with me. Although I wish I was that photogenic.

Day 1

Mikey really likes to get in the way when it's picture time. The second pose I realized my feet were positioned funny, oh and it shows my overbite. Take 3...I'll keep it.

{Shirt: TJ Maxx} {Cardigan: Target}
{Jeans: A store of some sort?}{Shoes: Target}

Day 2: Oops, my camera man must have been off duty.
I promise I wore green for St. Patty's day though!

Day 3

Shorts were allowed because I took the day off with my mom for a pedicure & shopping day. However, I switched from a 3/4 sleeve denim top to this top for date night with my husband. Mexican food & margaritas on the patio! Perfect date! Please ignore the pasty skin...it's embarrassing.

{Shirt: Forever 21} {Shorts: Old Navy}
{Shoes: Target}

Day 4

A day of fun outside! Might I say that those are my favorite summer shoes?!
But if you want them talk to me b/c the ministry I work for benefits when someone purchases these through us.

{Shirt: Target} {Shorts: Gap}
{Shoes: Sseko Designs}{Necklace: Ugandan Paper Beads}

Day 5: Sunday t-shirt then work out clothes for yard work. Neither of which were fun enough to take a photo of :)

Day 6

My husband just kept shooting the camera whether I was ready or not.

{Shirt: Target} {Jeans: Target}
{Shoes: Target}{Necklace: Kohl's}{Earrings: Target}

Day 6

A windy day combine with crazy dogs. There are several more where these came from where my head is chopped off or my shirt is blown up. It was nuts!

{Shirt: Forever 21} {Jeans: Kohl's}
{Shoes: Madden Girls}

He's made fun of me for these posts, but this week he wanted to be included. So here are a few photos of Cody from the week.
