Tuesday Glam Party #31

Happy Memorial Day everyone! I hope that you have had a great day and hopefully have enjoyed a great long weekend. Don't forget to remember our troops today who have given us such great freedoms! Not to mention the one who has given us the ultimate freedom in Christ Jesus his son!

How cute and unique are these linen business cards from The Summer House ?!

This laundry room sign from Life of the Cocktail Party is not only chic but hysterical!
I totally think I might need one of these in my house.

A Work in Progress

We're making some changes at our house...slowly but surely. My co-worker had a bazillion of these laying around so I went and filled my truck with them so I could have a pretty front yard. Obviously have a lot more to do before it's pretty! As you can see we have some dirt area that desperately need grass and new bushes and/or plants are a must!

Desperately need more plants!

The other side of our yard still needs some love as we haven't even put the rocks over there yet. However, we did finally unwrap the towels from the pipes. Yes, we are ghetto. And we did finally rake the leaves but alas the rocks remain sitting in the garage.

Extreme Couponing: Give Back!

I'm impressed with extreme couponers, I really am. It amazes me to see the amount of stuff they get for so little, sometimes even for free. Recently several of my friends have taken up saving money the coupon way and as they post their pictures I am seriously in awe. I wish I had the time or the patience to devote myself to couponing but I don't. So until then I marvel at the idea of it.

The only thing I find strange is the stock piles. I mean when will I use 12 deodorants? That stuff has an expiration date on it and I am sure it's not as powerful post date. I personally prefer to have fresh pits, but that's just me. My point in saying all this is...why not give that stuff away? You got 12 deodorants for 50 cents, surely you can just keep one and feel just as satisfied. I mean next week you will get 10 for free.

As I looked through my friends savings I ran across a girl who gives her extras away to people who really need it and that got me thinking. Today I was reminded of a friend that works in a homeless ministry in Dallas and that's when we got to talking about extreme couponing & toiletries. So, extreme couponers...time to do something good with your stockpiles.

Here is some info on a local ministry you could get involved in, but just think about others that are in your area. So, go rummage through your stock pile and donate those toiletries.

There are around 6,000 homeless adults in Dallas. And less than 2,000 shelter beds. Food and shelter are the obvious immediate needs, but shelters and homeless assistance centers also need toiletries to distribute to clients.

The Stewpot, a ministry of First Presbyterian Church Dallas, serves hundreds of clients each day with a variety of programs. Toiletries and over the counter medicines (pain relievers, vitamins, and antacids) are handed out at 8AM, Monday-Friday. These items are handed out on a first come, first serve basis and unfortunately are gone by 8:30 because of necessary rations. All toiletries handed out at The Stewpot have been donated by generous volunteers. But we always need more so that everyone who needs something can get it!

The items below are what we need. The bold items are things that we are consistently out of. Think about bringing home toiletries from the hotel on a vacation or pick up a few extra travel sized* items at the grocery store. Please especially consider donating feminine hygiene products, as we have much less than what is needed.

Shampoo/Conditioner

Toothbrush

Toothpaste

Soap

Lotion

Deodorant

Combs

Razors

Feminine Hygiene Products (Tampons/Maxi Pads)

Sunscreen

Large bottles of Multi-Vitamins, Tylenol, Aspirin, Ibuprofen, and Antacids

*When donating toiletries, please remember our clients don’t have a place to store their belongings. Please only donate travel sized items.

Relationship Ramblings: Selfishness

Spoiler Alert: If you have not watched the season finale for Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice & Desperate Housewives then you probably don't want to read this post.

Last week I sat on my couch and watched the season finales to all three of these shows. I was so disappointed in the relationships that dissolved during those 3 hours and all because somebody was being selfish. And it reminded me just how selfish we really are and how a lot of the time our problems in our relationships come from one of us being selfish.

In Grey's Anatomy, Meredith ruined her own husbands study on Alzheimer's because she wanted to ensure that Chief's wife did not get the placebo pill for the study. She risked her career by doing this, but did it anyway...an act of selfishness. While granted one could say she was not being selfish because she was helping Richard's wife despite the fact that it could ruin her life, but in regards to her relationship with Derek...selfish. Derek realizes he can't be with a woman who would do such a thing and leaves her.

{source: print screen of episode}

In the same episode, Cristina gets pregnant and tells Owen she wants to have an abortion. Owen refuses to go along with her as he wants to keep the baby. However, Cristina doesn't give a crap and decides shes making that decision for the two of them. How selfish!! I really could have jumped through the TV and hit her in the head for disregarding her husband as if he wasn't even talking. Owen ends up telling Cristina she needs to leave. I don't blame him really, but again...selfishness destroys a relationship.
(This makes me cringe a little to watch again)

In Private Practice, Violet decides that she wants to take a book tour and talks with Pete about it. Pete thinks its an awful idea and refuses that she goes. I mean she's already done enough damage by writing the book in the first place, the practice might have to close its doors as it is. Turns out Violet doesn't give a crap what Pete wants and goes anyway. Again, an act of selfishness leaves Pete ready to leave Violet forever.

In Desperate Housewives, Lynette & Tom have at it again. Of course they are always in an argument and frankly we all knew this time would come. He leaves her and comes back to try to work things out yet again, but she's relieved that he had left. I feel that again an aspect of selfishness ruled through in this couples lives destroying their marriage (not too mention a zillion other things)

{source}

I share all of this because I want to remind you to not let selfishness creep into your marriage or relationship and completely destroy it. Marriage takes two people so one of you can't be so caught up in yourself or it won't work. I could go into a whole other slew of things wrong in each of these episodes, a major one being that these women do not submit to their husbands authority in their marriage, but that's for another day.

What about yourself is so important that you can't for one second take into account the other person? Makes you think doesn't it...

What causes fights and quarrels among you?
Don't they come from your desires that battle within you?

Canvas Art

I've been dreaming up a new product for my shop for awhile now, but didn't know what direction I wanted to go with it. Wasn't sure if I wanted to do stuff for mom, more items for baby or home decor...

I landed on this:

Canvas art using fabric! :)

The original idea came because I wanted to make a painting like this for the nursery & then suddenly I realized it was perfect. I have several more to make and then they will launch in the shop! So excited!!

Bangle Bracelet Tuturial

Going through my moms crafty stuff the other day and I ran across this wooden bangle bracelet. I knew I had to do something with it so here it is:
(This is intended for personal use only:
Please do not make copies of this tutorial or make multiples for sale.)

I just went through some ribbons I already had laying around.

I'm a fan of cutting my ribbons cornered like this, but you don't have to if you don't want. Don't think it will really matter on a project like this!

I simply put a small dot of hot glue in the middle of the bracelet and pressed down the ribbon.

I then started wrapping the ribbon round and round!!

Every 2-3 wraps around I put a dot of hot glue to ensure that the ribbon sticks in it's place!

At the end I clipped the ribbon again at an angel and glued it down.
But that's not enough for me!

I think it's important to put this awesome product called Fray Check on the end of the ribbon to keep it from fraying. My particular ribbon was fraying right as I cut it.

Ta Da!! The finished project...

Storm Clouds

So we've been under a tornado warning for awhile and a couple hit down around this area. Photos popped up all over facebook of funnel clouds, but I never saw any.

Mikey wondering why I was outside while it was raining...

Tuesday Glam Party #30

I don't know if you have noticed or not, but I have made changes to the amount of time that the linky party is active. It is now active until Friday!!!

VOTE FOR THE SEX OF THE BABY ON THE RIGHT!! :)

I am absolutely in love with the activity wall from over at Girl in the Air!
This is genius! I can't wait until I have children old enough to do something like this for. I seriously talked about this on several occasions this week.

This chalkboard TV tray from Ms Not So Perfect is awesome!
How fun would it be for your own kitchen or for your kids to play with? I might have to make one of these for my niece who is constantly taking our orders.

I am absolutely in love with this stenciled wall from over at Creative Mommas!!
I have been contemplating just how we will paint the nursery and now I am thinking we might just need to have a stenciled wall in there!

How creative are these doormat DIY wall art from Lemon Tree Creations?
I seriously would have never thought of using a doormat for the stenciling on these.
They turned out gorgeous!

Step 1: Clean Out Closet

I posted the other day about my desperate need for nesting so that we can be baby ready by December. So I made my first step by going through the closet.

I dunno about you but for some reason getting rid of old clothes is an impossible task for me. I will throw away several things with no problem and other things I hold onto as if they cost me a million dollars or something.

A shirt I'm struggling to get rid of displayed in this photo.
In all honesty, I will never be able to wear it again as I was my tiniest at this stage but something about that shirt has me attached. However, I am thinking about adjusting the straps to turn it into a dress for a sweet little girl!

I can't seem to part with my pink sweater as I wore it to my Grandma's funeral. But alas, it's in the pile after several years of knowing I needed to get rid of it. I guess something about getting rid of it says that I'm really saying goodbye to Grandma.

I wore this skirt to my other Grandma's funeral and well I am still holding on to it, or maybe I did finally put it in the pile after all.

Or what about my favorite pair of pants from college? I haven't been able to wear them in 6 years probably but have continued to hold onto them for some reason. I still love them, but it's time to say goodbye.

I absolutely love this shirt, but it's just a little too small. Even after losing 10 lbs. pre-baby it still didn't fit too great. Time to part!

And I guess I should part with this one too! It's cute, but again...too small!

So attached to this dress, but the boobs can't take it anymore.

So anyone else find that it's almost impossible to get rid of your clothes? Find every excuse in the book not to get rid of them? Hold on a few years too many!!

Recent Puppy Damage

Don't be deceived to think this is a face of innocence, because really it's a face of evil.

So the other night we were sitting in the living room watching TV when I heard a loud noise. I assumed it was thunder since it was stormy that night, but turns out it was demon dog chewing a hole in the wall. Small in comparison to the wall, but he did some nice damage...

A closer look at the damage. I can't imagine the wall tasting that good...

Go ahead and add that to the projects we have needs for around the house.
Thanks Big Mike!
